A DALES pub is due to reopen later this year, almost three years after it closed its doors to customers.
The Punch Bowl Inn at Low Row in Swaledale has been bought by Charles and Stacy Cody, who already run the CB Inn in neighbouring Arkengarthdale.
They plan to completely refurbish the 17th century building to create a pub, restaurant and, eventually, up to 12 letting bedrooms.
The inn closed six days before Christmas in 2003, and Mr Cody said he and his wife were interested in buying it as soon as it was offered for sale.
However, another would-be developer wanted to turn it into apartments. When that scheme was abandoned, Mr and Mrs Cody secured planning permission for their development in the main part of the building. Another part of the premises has been sold separately.
"The work will take at least three months, as we are moving the staircase and completely refurbishing the place," said Mr Cody. "We will open as a village pub and restaurant, hopefully by the end of the year, and then develop 11 or 12 letting bedrooms.
"We are very often over-booked at the CB, so it will be good to have somewhere else for people to go, and our regulars in Arkengarthdale will be able to have a change of scenery."
