A POPULAR organic brie will be on the menu all year round after a dairy has stepped up production to meet demand.
Acorn Dairy, which farms organically and has herds at Archdeacon Newton, near Darlington, and Spennithorne, near Leyburn, has made the soft cheese for two years.
Until now, its manufacture has been limited to the summer and autumn half term when they had surplus milk available.
“Now we have extra capacity and the brie available all year round for doorstep milk customers, vegetable box schemes, local cafes and restaurants,” said director Caroline Tweddle.
“Demand has been strong from the start. My initial predictions fell short, but this is a nice problem to have.”
One of the first to have the brie on the menu is Walworth Castle hotel, less than two miles from the Darlington dairy.
Owner Chris Swain said: “People love to know where our food has been sourced and can’t believe it when we tell them it is literally just down the road. It’s a very welcome addition to our cheeseboard.”
