SOME of the paintings by Robert McManners at the Richmond Station Gallery are of particular significance, as they represent his recovery after a serious injury two years ago which paralysed his right arm.

A medical doctor by profession and artist by inclination, he has slowly returned to painting.

Born at Ferryhill, in County Durham, his early work was inspired by the coal mines and their characters and by the wildlife in hedgerows.

He has exhibited widely throughout the North-East, and has work is held in many collections. He has also illustrated many books, including plates for his brother, John’s, anthology of stories about St Cuthbert. This book is available at the Station and several of the Cuthbert Series (below) are in the exhibition. The exhibition is open from 9am- 10pm daily until Saturday, July 3. Entry is free.
