A TEESSIDE industrial fabrication plant this week went into administration with 15 redundancies and a further 80 jobs at risk.

Hertel Project Services (HPS), based at Wilton, near Redcar, works primarily in the nuclear, process, petrochemical and pharmaceutical sectors.

Vantis, the administrators, made the redundancies on Monday and said the remaining employees would keep their jobs until current work is completed.

The decision to call in administrators was another blow for the Wilton site, which has already seen the closures of the Invista, Dow and Croda sites, and the mothballing of Artenius, which has since reopened under new ownership.

HPS was part of the business bought by Hertel UK, the Middlesbrough- based industrial services company, from Aker Kvaerner Engineering Services in 2006.

The move safeguarded 160 jobs, including 100 in the fabrication business, and Hertel has since made significant investment.
