First Yorkshire Alpaca show at Thirsk

THE first ever Alpaca show in Yorkshire is being held with an Australian expert on hand to judge the entrants.

The show is to be run under the organising skills of the Yorkshire Alpaca Group and it is at Thirsk Auction Mart.

Australian Alpaca expert Tim Hey is to run his eye over the animals which will be judged under the rules of the British Alpaca Society.

There is expected to be around 150 Alpacas, which originate from South America, at the show drawn from across the UK.

Estimates claim there are in excess of 20,000 Alpaca in the UK and its fleece is used to make clothes from.

The animal was highly cherished by the Inca civilisation in the mountains of South America over 4,000 years ago.

Entries are still being taken for the classes with a cut off date of Sunday, September 27, with details at www.countyalpacas.co.uk.

The show is at Thirsk Auction Mart, off Blakey Lane, near Sowerby, on Saturday, October 24, with judging from 9am and free entry.
