MORE than 200 children and parents have taken part in the Hambleton and Richmondshire play ranger project this summer.
By the end of August five villages, Scotton, Picton, Scorton, Reeth and Snape, will have been visited by the lottery funded play team. The play team have also been to a park festival celebrating National Play Day and a ‘lads and dads’ session in Colburn, and to Topcliffe and Thirsk to deliver sessions under the Extended Schools programme.
Den building, kite making, water fights, sports, mud pies, petal perfumes and fire tribe have been on the agenda as well as special ‘anything goes’ days.
The Play Ranger project, which is funded by the Big Lottery Fund for three years, takes play out to rural areas where there is little or no play provision. The team aims to attract 5 to 11 year olds and encourages parents to stay with their youngsters and get involved.
The scheme will be visiting Snape next week from August 24-28.
