It's been confirmed that The Santa Express train journeys will return for 2023, as organisers for the event have promised a 'Christmas adventure' for passengers this winter.

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) has had a jam-packed year celebrating the 50th anniversary of the heritage railway and has revealed all of the details about its Santa Express routes.

During the all-family event, people will have a chance to meet Father Christmas and his helpers on board the Santa Express.

The magical services will bring the festive season to life during the weekends of November 25 and 26, December 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, 23 and 24.

Departing from Pickering or Grosmont Station, visitors can climb aboard the decorated carriages for the ultimate festive experience, where children will meet Father Christmas and his jolly helpers as they pass through the carriages.

If children have stayed on the nice list this year, they will receive a special gift from the legendary man himself.

Santa’s Helpers will also be on the hour-long return journey to make cherished memories that last a lifetime.

Luke Hudman, marketing manager at the NYMR said: “As we get excited for the festivities ahead, it’s important to remember that the winter season is when the NYMR team knuckle-down and carry out necessary maintenance to ensure locomotives are safe and running most efficiently.

"Rest assured that if you’re climbing aboard for one of the Santa Special services, you’re in for a fantastic experience and  by purchasing your ticket you’ll also be donating vital funds to ensure the railway carries out important work to keep it steaming on into 2024.”
