A 16th Century North Yorkshire village pub has re-opened after a ‘substantial’ refurbishment.
Taking the reins of The Staveley Arms in North Stainley, just north of Ripon, are experienced proprietors Steve Mortimer, Fay Howell and Oliver Renton.
Steve, who alongside Fay also runs the Turkey Inn, a country pub near Keighley, said they hope to bring their successful formula to the village venue, which has been closed for seven months.
The trio worked with James Staveley, who owns the North Stainley Estate, along with villagers on the re-opening, saying they were all keen to see the pub brought back to life and at the heart of the village.
Steve said: “It was great to see the excitement around the re-opening at the recent North Stainley Together Community meeting too.
“We plan to use produce from the estate and are keen to source local produce for our menu where possible. We’ve kept all the traditional Staveley Arms features as well as adding some fresh ideas too, we’ve all invested a lot into renovating and redecorating the pub to create a cosy environment that we hope customers from near and far will enjoy. We have some big plans to expand the offering too, so there will always be something going on!”
The pub is complimented by eight en-suite rooms – housed inside ‘The Old Coach House'. The accommodation has remained open throughout the last seven months and over the years has gained numerous awards and 5-star reviews.
Pub general manager Oliver Renton wants to maintain the venue’s strong reputation for serving high quality food and drink, whilst ensuring a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere.
Oliver said: “The Staveley Arms has so much to offer. I’ve worked in the industry for over 20 years and The Staveley Arms has it all. Internally and externally it’s an amazing venue offering so much space and opportunity – the beer garden alone can accommodate 80 customers.”
“It’s a traditional country pub, the fires will be roaring, walkers and dogs will be welcome all year round, and there will always be a good choice of Yorkshire ales available, plus of course our own Staveley Arms ales.
“We’ve recently moved into the village, our children are attending the local school – we’re really looking forward to getting stuck into North Stainley life.”
Oliver says he will be supported by a strong kitchen and front of house team.
“Experienced chef Loc Bui will lead the kitchen. Loc has over 30 years of knowledge in the industry, we just know everyone will love his cooking and menus,” he added.
The Staveley Arms will host a quiz night on Wednesdays and a Real Ale Club on Thursdays when all house and guest cask ales will be £3.50 a pint.
