Swaledale Festival launched on Friday, May 26 with the opening of art exhibition Talk of the Land: Ancient Sound Waves at The Station in Richmond.

Students at Risedale School in Catterick Garrison explored the stream of consciousness provoked by sounds and words from the Yorkshire Dales with artists Rachel Antill and Patrick Green, resulting in a series of stunning, map-like artworks.

Prime Minister and Richmond MP Rishi Sunak, attended to congratulate the young artists on their achievement.

One student said: ‘I loved doing art outside. It made me think about what I’m doing when I’m not in school. Working with Rachel was brilliant as it made me look and listen.’

The exhibition is open daily from 9am to 9pm until June 7 and is free to attend.

Swaledale Festival sees more than 50 world-class music, arts and walking events take place across Swaledale, Wensleydale and Arkengarthdale from until June 10. For tickets and information visit www.swalefest.org.
