Residents have been left appalled after a Darlington bus stop was vandalised on the same day it was repaired.

Darlington Borough Council (DBC) have issued an appeal to the public for information on repeated acts of vandalism aimed at Northgate bus stop, near the park.

This comes after the bus stop saw a glass pane shattered on Thursday, January 5, the same day it was repaired from the last attack.

Since then, a photo taken on Wednesday, January 11 emerged, showing the second glass pane also smashed and large amounts of broken glass scattered across the floor.

Darlington and Stockton Times:

The council has asked for anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward to help identify those responsible.

In a statement, DBC said: "We're asking anyone who may have seen - or any CCTV or dashcam footage - repeated vandalism at this bus stop on Northgate (the one next to the entrance to the park, near the takeaway row) to please come forward so we can try to identify the culprits.

"The glass was smashed overnight on 4/5 January, the same day it was repaired by the bus stop's owner after previous vandalism.

"Our civic enforcement team will be increasing patrols in the area but as we keep saying - the more information we have about anti-social behaviour, the easier it is to act. If you see anything happening anywhere in town, let us know."

Meanwhile, residents have reacted angrily to the news online and condemned the actions of the vandals.

One resident, pointing out that the second pane had been smashed, said: "It was half broken the other day I'm assuming it was repaired and now someone has done a proper job on it."

Another angry resident said: "I would put cctv in the bus shelter that’s repeatedly targeted, I’m sick of my council tax going up to repair mindless vandalism!"

While another exasperated resident said: "Been the best year by far for council in Darlington things looking up, then [we're] reminded quickly about the ones who just don’t care, don’t know about you but makes me sick."
