A MUSICAL theatre company is hoping to repeat one of its most successful and adventurous productions and is looking for new members to help.

Northallerton Musical Theatre Company is aiming to put on Calendar Girls The Musical from July 13 to 16. With music written by Gary Barlow, group secretary Maureen Willoughby said it is a superb show.

She added: “We staged it in 2013 and it was a huge success. We also made a calendar which sold out. We donated a considerable sum of money to cancer charities. Anyone interested is welcome to come along at 7.30pm on Tuesday, March 29 at Romanby Methodist Church Hall when musical director Geoff Foxall will be going through the music. We are asking people to come along and have a listen.”

At the moment the company is rehearsing its spring production Broadway and Beyond, a compilation of songs from musicals which will be staged from April 28 to 30 at The Forum in Northallerton.

Ms Willoughby added: “We didn't perform either a spring or autumn show in 2020 due to Covid but opened up again in October last year with six sell out performances of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. During lockdown we organised online quizzes and concerts to keep the company together. Rehearsals for Joseph were stopped a few times because of Covid, but we got there. We are having problems again with our current rehearsals but the show will go on l am sure.”

The company was formed in 1954 as Northallerton Operatic Society, with the name changed 12 years ago to better reflect the type of shows put on. The group has an acting membership of about 45 members, with non-acting members totalling 40.
