A NORTH-EAST engineering firm has secured a multi-million pound contract to supply equipment bound for the Caspian Sea, between Europe and Asia.

Darlington-based Supergrip (UK) Limited, which specialises in subsea equipment, was awarded it’s biggest contract yet for the supply of vital hardware in the ‘world’s largest lake’.

The firm, based on Coniscliffe Road, secured a £1.7m order from a global engineering firm specialising in the gas and oil industry earlier this month.

Headed by bosses Gordon Conlon and Darren Blackburn, the firm has already secured contracts from across the world, including Malaysia, Australia and Norway.

The firm operates a production facility located in Lancashire.

Mr Conlon said the contract win is parrticularly timely after recently expanding the business.

He said: “The timing could not have been better as we have just expanded the business by acquiring the machine shop.

“This has allowed us to add bespoke hardware to our product sourcing and service offering.”

The multi-million pound contract will see Supergrip supply, manufacture and test a wide range of fabricated and machined hardware.

The hardware includes tensioners, bearings and winches for subsea platforms to be built in the Caspian Sea.

Under the contract, Supergrip will also provide engineering assistance.

Mr Conlon said: “These are exciting times and since we rebranded in 2015 we have seen significant growth.

“The latest contract, which comes in the wake of other exciting projects secured this year, will allow us to progress further and result in the company posting record results at the end of the financial year.”

Mr Blackburn added that the pair were delighted with how the firm had developed following the completion of a number of successful contracts.

He said: “Winning this contract is reward for the diligent work put in by our team over the course of the past three months to provide the optimum solution to an extensive scope of supply.

“We are delighted with how the hardware side of the business is developing, with a number of completed contracts receiving some excellent client feedback.

“Our goal now is to continue this growth by developing products and new market sectors.”
