Library appeal

NORTH Yorkshire Libraries service is looking for volunteers to support its bibliographic services team at the Northallerton headquarters. Information days will be held in Northallerton library to give people an opportunity to find out more. The sessions are on September 26, 10am to noon and October 1, 11am to 1pm. Northallerton library is also keen to hear from anyone interested in volunteering within the library itself. Roles include serving customers, helping with story times and delivering books to housebound customers.

Top towns

ALL five of Hambleton’s market towns - Bedale, Easingwold, Northallerton, Stokesley and Thirsk – have entered the Best British High Street competition bidding to become ‘Champion High Street’. They will compete with hundreds of other towns for a chance to win up to £10,000 for their local community, as well as be named overall High Street of the Year. 26 high streets will be shortlisted this month, with final judging in October. The overall winner will be announced on November 14.

Housing site

CONSTRUCTION has started on new houses at a 1.4-acre site in Pickhill near Thirsk. Shulmans LLP, acting on behalf of Cromsdale Property Group, assisted on the successful completion of the purchase of the site which has planning permission for five luxury detached houses. The first homes will be ready for occupation in early 2019.

Car damaged

A WING mirror was broken off a car parked in Ashlands Road, Northallerton, and police are appealing for information. It happened between 10am and 7.30pm on Sunday, September 9 and any witnesses should tell police on 101.

Cheese talk

SOWERBY Women’s Institute will host a talk on cheese making by Diedre Birchell at 7.15pm this Thursday. New members and visitors are welcome, admission is £2 at the Sowerby Methodist Schoolroom.
