AN acclaimed author and producer will visit the region this weekend for a screening of a cinematic documentary.

Shadow World, hosted by Quakers at the Friends Meeting House in Darlington, will be screened there at 7pm on Sunday.

Andrew Feinstein spent ten years researching the “corruption and complicity” that underpin the transnational arms trade. The result was The Shadow World, the book which inspired the film directed by Johan Grimonprez.

Shadow World won best documentary feature at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in 2016 and has been praised by critics. Mr Feinstein is accompanying the film on a mini-tour of Quaker Meeting Houses in the North-East, with Newcastle, Hexham and Sunderland also playing host.

Following each screening, he will take part in a Q&A on his work and the issues raised.

Mr Feinstein is a former ANC MP who served under Nelson Mandela, and was identified as one of the 100 most influential people globally working against armed violence.

Darlington Quaker, Matthew Large, said: “Peace is a really important issue to Quakers, so we’re delighted to be able to bring Shadow World to Darlington. It’s fantastic to have Andrew visit us and we’re looking forward to a very thought-provoking evening.”
