I HAVE a dream that Durham University realises that it is already too big for this small city and decides to expand no further.

I dream that it believes it is fitting that it should take responsibility for the housing of its students in halls of residence within its own land. I dream that all homes of multiple occupation are converted back into family homes to enable Durham’s true character to be restored.

I dream that the proper balance of town and gown may be regained and that both may live and work together in perfect peace and harmony.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to see this dream come true?
