THREE boys have raised more than £200 by washing cars in their village to raise cash for new play park equipment.

Sam Denton, 10, and friends Jake Gault and Max McCafferty, all from Crakehall, near Bedale, are taking part in North Yorkshire Police's Lifestyle Challenge, which encourages youngsters aged 10 to 17 to take on project to benefit their community.

The boys had a great morning at the coffee, cake and car wash event last week.

Their group called This is Impossible (Not) washed cars and served refreshments. People gave donations and they raised £239.44.

Mum Rachel Denton said: "They took left over cakes around the village to sell to residents. Thanks to Crakehall Village Hall committee for letting us hire the hall at a reduced rate, and thanks also to WPC Heather Lees who came down to support the event."
