THE first artisan food and drink market to be held in Thirsk has been hailed as a big success - despite the weather.

Speciality coffee, traditional fudge, hand-made pies, scotch eggs, ice cream, local gin, African food and a BBQ were some of the delights available.

“The one thing we cannot do is predict the weather,” said Hambleton District Council's vibrant market towns project officer David McKnight.

“But thankfully by 11am the rain had passed and the sun and shoppers came out, keen to try the artisan foods on offer, and some of the stall holders even sold out!

“Hopefully the sun will shine on our next artisan market on August 25 which takes place in the town’s market place, close by the traditional Saturday market.”
