A £2.3m scheme by Yorkshire Water will see a new three-mile long sewer pipe laid from from Bagby to its waste water treatment works at Sowerby, Thirsk.

Yorkshire Water’s partners, Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB), will start work next Monday, August 6,and the entire project is expected to take around a year to complete.

The project is part of a wider programme of environmental improvements to enhance the quality of water that is discharged from some of the company's waste water treatment works.

The new sewer pipeline, once complete, will mean that the current Bagby sewage plant can be decommissioned, with the village’s sewage waste treated in Thirsk instead.

Thirsk waste water treatment works is located off Sandholmes Lane in Sowerby and is soon to undergo an upgrade too.

Yorkshire Water communications advisor Mark Allsop said: "This work will improve the quality of watercourses in Bagby and is needed to meet new environmental water quality standards.

"We'd like to apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank everyone in advance for their patience and assistance.

He added: "Please be assured we'll do everything we can to keep disruption to a minimum and complete the work as quickly as possible.”
