THIS weekend sees a summer music festival in the grounds of Gisborough Priory.

Today and tomorrow there are tribute bands playing 1970s' and 1980s' music and rock and pop classics.

Sunday is Proms at the Priory, an open-air concert directed by Stephen Ellery with the London Gala Orchestraplaying classical favourites, ending with a finale of fireworks.

There will be a licensed bar and hot food and concertgoers may picnic in the grounds.

One of the main performers is local girl, Charlotte Potter, 17, who lives in Great Auk, Guisborough, and who has sung at events in Guisborough, including while at the local Laurence Jackson School.

Charlotte is studying music, art and history to A-level at Chetham School of Music in Manchester but returns for the Prom Festival to perform classic solos and duets with soprano Juliette Pochin, known for her performances in operas and as a classical recitalist.

Her repertoire ranges from Somewhere over the Rainbow to Rule Britannia, Land of Hope and Glory and Mein Herr Marquis by Strauss.

Earlier this week she was in Bagni di Lucca in Tuscany to give a 45 minute recital as part of the Puccini Festival for Lord Byron’s Old Summer House, returning today in time for the Proms at Guisborough.

Charlotte Potter said: “Moving to Manchester was one of the best things I did. I am surrounded by music every day and it was like a dream come true. I just want to sing and eventually join one of the Royal Conservatoires, hopefully London, but I love to be invited to come home and do concerts locally.”

Tickets for the Prom concert cost £18, under-6s £6, children under four free, available from TS14 Clothing in Church Street and Guisborough, Redcar and Saltburn Libraries.
