COUNCIL leaders have paid tribute to the the Queen’s personal representative in North Yorkshire, ahead of his memorial service in York Minster on Friday.
A minute’s silence was held at a full meeting of North Yorkshire County Council to honour Barry Dodd, North Yorkshire’s Lord Lieutenant, who died in May, in a helicopter crash near Boroughbridge.
The authority’s leader, Councillor Carl Les listed the range of public roles his friend of 30 years had managed.
Cllr Les said: “Lord lieutenant, successful entrepreneur, mentor, friend, friend to this council, and most importantly, friend to this county.”
At a full meeting of Hambleton District Council, the authority’s leader, Councillor Mark Robson said Mr Dodd’s death was “a tragic loss”.
Cllr Robson said Mr Dodd had shown dedication and support for the area as the chairman of the enterprise partnership and without his efforts, key schemes would not have been financed.
