FUN, foam and fooling around marked the return of the St Teresa’s Hospice ‘It’s a Knockout’ event.

The competition, based on the format of the popular 1960s television game show, saw teams from across Darlington compete against each other over a series of inflatable courses.

Among the teams taking part at Blackwell Meadows were the Quakers Running Club, staff from Parkgate Medical Practice, the Boot and Shoe pub and CPI.

After some organised silliness and comedy competitiveness, the team from the Boot and Shoe emerged victorious.

John Paul Stabler, fundraising and marketing manager for the hospice, said it had been a great day.

He said: “It has been really good, we have had a good number of teams this year, we always hope for a few more, but we had a good turnout considering it was a World Cup Final and Wimbledon finals day.

“The teams taking part really enjoyed it, we have some coming back for the second or third time or more and they look forward to it.

“It is all just a bit of fun, some take it more seriously than others, but generally speaking it is all just good fun.”

Mr Stabler said it is too soon to say how much was raised for the hospice but it is anticipated to be around the £3,000 mark thanks to match funding from the event’s main sponsors, Barclays.

The hospice, which provides a range of care and support services to terminally ill people across the area, needs to raise around £1.7m each year.
