“DESPICABLE” actions of a motorist who filmed the aftermath of a fatal car crash and drove over a police officer’s foot were heard in court.

Mohammed Rahman was due to appear at Northallerton Magistrates’ Court on Friday accused of driving without due care and attention, driving while using a phone and without insurance.

Prosecuting, Adam Walker said PCSO Matthew Murphy was directing traffic around a two-car collision on the A658 near Knaresborough on September 9.

One of the crash drivers was dead inside the car when Rahman drove up to the scene holding his phone out of the window, apparently taking footage.

Two of Rahman’s passengers were doing the same as PCSO Murphy said he saw ‘three arms and three phones’ hanging out of the car.

When PCSO Murphy went to tell them to put their seatbelts on and leave the scene, Rahman drove his Audi over the officer’s foot and sped off.

PCSO Murphy said: “I got to the vehicle and made eye contact with the driver and someone in the vehicle shouted ‘here come the pigs’.”

PCSO Murphy was uninjured.

Mr Walker said: “The most despicable part of this case isn’t actually a crime, but in the process of behaving disgracefully, he did commit a number of crimes.”

Rahman, 22, of Clarendon Court, Bradford, did not appear for his trial and magistrates found the case proved in his absence.

The magistrates were told Rahman was banned from driving for six months in April under the totting up system.

The case was adjourned until July 31 for sentencing.
