VISITORS to a community arts centre will be able to experience the joy of meadows.

The Witham and Barnard Castle Town Council have joined forces to celebrate National Meadows Day with several events taking place on Saturday, July 7.

A new meadow trail will be launched at the Barnard Castle centre at 11am where volunteer meadow expert, Neil Diment, will answer questions and give demonstrations of ancient scything.

Ecologist Rachel Clarke will lead a minibeast adventure to learn more about meadow insects and children can enjoy a craft activity at 12.30pm followed by a guided walk to the meadow on the Upper Demesnes, at 2pm.

Places on the Minibeast Adventure are £6. To book, call 01833-631107. You can also visit thewitham.org.uk or just call in. All other events are free.
