BESTSELLING author and illustrator Lauren Child will be at Newby Hall near Ripon this summer, where her own dolls’ house will be on display.

The writer behind the well-known Charlie and Lola and Clarice Bean books will be at the stately home in July.

Less well-known is the author's lifelong interest in dolls’ houses and for the first time she will be loaning her own dolls’ house to Newby Hall. She has designed and furnished the dolls house in her unique style over the past 30 years.

She said: “I am especially pleased that my dolls’ house will be shown alongside Newby’s own world-famous collection and to be part of this extraordinary tradition.”

On Friday, July 6 Lauren Child will hold a talk about her fascination for dolls’ houses and the joy of creating stories in a miniature world of make-believe.

The event will run from 6.30pm until 8.30pm and tickets are £20 adults and £12 children and include all day access to Newby Hall Gardens and a drink.

Lauren will also be at Newby Hall on Saturday, July 7 to officially open a complementary summer exhibition of her artwork, as well as a Lauren Child character-themed trail in the gardens.

People can meet the author in person and purchase signed copies of her books.

The summer exhibition will run until September 7 and signed limited edition prints will be available to buy.
