A COMMUNITY is setting out its stall for a bumper carnival over the May Bank Holiday.

Brompton. near Northallerton is pulling out all the stops to stage a family fun event on Monday May 28. The event begins at the top end of the village at Water End at 1pm where people gather for the fancy dress judging with prizes.

The traditional parade then winds its way through the village from 1.30pm arriving at the green for games and demonstrations.

Events include FIJ sportif judo display; Northallerton rock choir; Xpressions creative arts-dance displays with a finale of fire eating and Uncle Brian appearing as the children's entertainer alongside North Yorkshire birds of prey and Northallerton XV club.

Brompton Scorpers, the sword dancing display team will be giving a demonstration, and there will be a climbing wall, inflatable pillow wars and an extensive range of stalls as well as the fun of the fair. The carnival and sports events will be staged throughout the afternoon.

One of the organisers Karen Waring said: "It really is a traditional fun event for all the family to come along too with something for everyone. Hopefully the weather will be good but it will be a great event anyway."

Refreshments are being offered at the Methodist Church Hall, Brompton road will be closed to traffic between 1pm and 8pm in the evening .
