POLICE charities are set to benefit from the sale of historical items from the former police headquarters at Newby Wiske.
Following the move from Newby Wiske to Northallerton, various policing items were found and some have been put on display in the new headquarters at Allerton Court.
Local museums have taken some items, but due to the volume of memorabilia not everything was able to be found a home.
The rest is being sold at auction and to date, the total comes to £4,370. Of that £140 was raised from the sale of a clock and has been allocated to Cancer Research at the request of the family of the officer whose name is inscribed on the item. The next auction is scheduled for May 29.
All money raised from the sale of the items will be donated equally to the Police Treatment Centre and the North Yorkshire Police Welfare Fund.
Julia Mulligan, Police and Crime Commissioner for North Yorkshire, said: “It seems only right that past and present police officers get some benefit from the sale of these items.”
