A MAN has been arrested after a crime spree in Teesdale last night.

The man has been arrested on suspicion of burglary after three business and a garage were targeted in the early hours.

It is believed the suspect carried out three burglaries in Barnard Castle with The Moody Baker, Picture This and Nimbus Vape Shop all being targeted before the an attempt to burgle Katie’s Traditional Fish Shop was also made.

It is unknown what was taken from each business.

A police spokeswoman said the suspect then went to an address in Gainford where he made attempts to remove a car to get into a garage.

The man caused extensive damage to the car and made off when he was disturbed by the homeowner.

Soon after he was located and detained by police officers in Staindrop and arrested.

He remains in police custody today while investigations continue.

Inspector Ed Turner, from Barnard Castle Neighbourhoods Team said: “I would like to reassure the residents of Barnard Castle and its surrounding areas that this is a rare incident, it is noticeable that the person we have arrested is not local to County Durham and Darlington."
