A FAMILY-run greengrocers have been revealed as the winners of a town’s coveted retail award.

Neeps and Tatties, owned by David and Loo Morton, have received Original Richmond’s David Doorbar Award for Innovation and Excellence in Retail.

They were praised for their use of local produce, shop display and a recently installed delicatessen counter.

Their free-range eggs are laid in Wensleydale, Dales Dairies bring milk and cream from Grassington, Swaledale cheese is produced in Richmond, and Country Products near York supply their range of dry goods.

Faye Doorbar, who presented the award, said: “Loo and David so obviously work hard to provide terrific, high quality produce, local where possible, in their shop as well as delivering to the door and they ensure that all their staff are friendly and helpful.”

Mr and Mrs Morton said: “We are very humbled. We always strive to provide a service to meet the needs of our customers, and for the staff and ourselves to have been recognised is hugely appreciated.”

Second place was given to Mocha Chocolate Shop, run by husband and wife Dennis and Elizabeth Graves, followed by King Street Kitchen and Gifts.

David Doorbar ran Richmond Motor Company with his wife Faye, ranking highly in customer care league tables.

Before he died in 2015, he wanted to introduce an award for local businesses and was presented with the first one.

Mrs Doorbar added: “It is heartening that the award in David’s name has received so many nominations, for a broad cross section of businesses in and around Richmond with such positive comments from those who voted.”
