A NEW chairman has been appointed to lead a broadband company.

North Yorkshire County Council and NYnet have chosen Peter Scrope to chair the company, as it pushes ahead with ambitious plans to bring superfast broadband coverage to more places.

The 63-year-old has experience within the telecommunications industry, including founding and leading successful businesses in the sector, and extensive board and chair experience.

He said: “I am delighted to take up the role. I am impressed by the difference that NYnet can make to the communities of North Yorkshire and the potential for growth is something I feel that I can add real value to.’’

Councillor Don Mackenzie, executive member for broadband, said: “The council and NYnet wish to express our sincere thanks to John Watson, the outgoing chairman.

“John has provided excellent leadership over many years, and has played a significant role in bringing high quality broadband to many thousands of households and businesses in North Yorkshire.”
