FAMILIES who would otherwise be going short of food and toys this Christmas are being given a helping hand.

Thirsk charity The Clock is preparing over 40 hampers for local families in need over the Christmas period.

The hampers are possible thanks to donations from residents, schools and churches across the Thirsk area.

The appeal was also bolstered by the Squires Toy Run in November when over 100 motorcyclists brought gifts to Thirsk.

Volunteers will be packing and delivering the parcels in the days before Christmas, including a team from Pipeline Engineering of Richmond who have chosen The Clock as their charity and donated £400 to the project.

Chief Executive of The Clock Abigail Homer said: “The Clock is a small charity with a big heart for people that is making a real difference in the lives of many people.

“The support of the community helps us to make that difference. We would like to say an enormous thank you to everyone who donated and we would encourage other businesses to support us too.”
