THE tireless fundraising achievements of a North Yorkshire woman have been honoured by the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Anne Baron and a group of fundraising friends called "The A Team" have been organising, running and taking part in events to raise money for the rapid response emergency charity since 2004.

Over the last 13 years Anne, from Thorpe Bassett, near Malton, has helped to raisemore than £100,000 and her amazing efforts were honoured at the charity's annual awards evening where she received the Special Recognition Award.

“It was a lovely surprise but the A Team couldn’t raise the money we do without the support of the public,” said Anne, 69.

“We are all farmers living in the Wolds which is not very easy to get to if you need emergency medical help.

“We were very keen to support the Yorkshire Air Ambulance because we all know just how vital the charity’s work is.”

The A Team have held a wide range of events including raffles, car boot sales, supper dances, cricket matches, auction of promises and a clothes fair.

But they are always looking for fun ways to raise money for the charity they love. Anne and her ladies have organised tandem rides over the North York Moors, a skydive, a Calendar Girls-style calendar and earlier this year slept under the stars on the Yorkshire Wolds for a night.

A number of other volunteers, organisations and corporate supporters from across the region were honoured during the charity’s 11th annual Recognition Awards held at the Principal Hotel, York.
