MONTHS of meticulous work has culminated in a fitting tribute to wartime heroes at a community care scheme.

Tenants, family members and neighbours of the Orchards Extra Care Scheme, run by the Broadacres Housing Association in Brompton, near Northallerton, knitted and painted their way towards a striking display in the building’s foyer featuring a net waterfall of around 400 knitted poppies.

The display, finished in time for Remembrance Sunday, also features a mannequin in military uniform adorned with poppies and a book sale with proceeds going to Walking with the Wounded.

Tenants who are members of the care scheme’s art classes also contributed with poppy paintings.

Care scheme manager Rowena Langdale said the tribute had been a "lovely" combined effort and she was keen for members of the local community to go along and enjoy the display.

She added: “It has really come together nicely.

“It has been a real community effort and we are going to leave it up for the whole of November.”
