FROM dedicated coaches to players at the top of their game, heroes of Hambleton’s sporting scene have been honoured.

Eight awards were given in the annual Hambleton Sports Awards – marking achievements in everything from golf, hockey and boccia to running, swimming and football.

Among the winners was runner Marc Scott of Northallerton who was selected to represent GB in the European Team Championships in Lille where he finished second in the 3,000 metres.

The Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability title went to boccia player Mark Gracey of Northallerton, while Thirsk’s Beverley Longthorne scooped Volunteer of the Year for her 30-year-long association with Thirsk Hockey Club. Cllr Bridget Fortune, portfolio holder for leisure services. praised the “gifted” winners.
