A CAR parts maker is driving on with work to improve recycling operations.

Nifco UK has partnered with O’Brien Waste Recycling Solutions on a scheme aimed at increasing efficiencies.

Bosses say the move will create two jobs, with O’Brien workers based full-time at Nifco, which has two factories in Eaglescliffe, near Stockton.

They added staff will segregate waste into different streams, with the goods sent directly to recyclers to be made into new products.

Malcolm Mayes, Nifco systems engineer, said: “We were drawn to O’Brien because of their reputation for working in partnership, rather than a company to simply dispose of our waste.

“Having the waste operatives on site is a simple but effective idea and we are greatly encouraged with how that is going.”

David Bennett, sales and marketing director at O’Brien, added: “Nifco UK is a key and valued client and we are delighted with the opportunity to assist the team with their ongoing commitment to sustainability.

“We are constantly looking at new ways to help our business partners improve their recycling performance.

“The move towards the circular economy is critical in this country, especially with Brexit looming over us.”

Nifco is known for producing plastic components, such as door handles and cup holders, for customers including Ford, Honda, Jaguar Land Rover and Sunderland-based Nissan.

It also previously beat rivals from Germany, Japan and China to a £50m Ford contract to make parts for new low-emission vehicle engines.
