A MAN who climbed on to a lorry near a fracking site has been charged.

The 28-year-old man clambered on to the heavy goods vehicle as it drove along Kirby Misperton Road near to the junction with the A169 Malton to Pickering road on Wednesday.

As traffic backed up on to the A169, police put a contraflow system in place so traffic heading to and from Flamingo Land and Kirby Misperton could pass the lorry.

North Yorkshire Police say the 28-year-old man was charged with hindering the use of equipment, an offence under the Trade Union and Labour Relations Act 1992.

He will appear in court in December.

Man arrested after climbing on lorry in layby

On Thursday, October 26, a man was arrested after climbing on to a lorry parked in a layby on the A64 in North Yorkshire at 9.45am.

Police believe the incident, which happened some distance from Third Energy’s fracking site, was in connection with protests over the Kirby Misperton site.

The 29-year-old came down from the lorry at about 1.20pm and was arrested on suspicion of hindering the use of equipment. He remains in custody.

Police say there have now been 57 arrests in connection with protest activity at Kirby Misperton since the start of September. Of those, 42 have been charged to court.
