DARLINGTON Piano Society's first recital of the season in the Central Hall at the Dolphin Centre attracted more than 100 to hear Martin Roscoe, one of the country’s best known and best loved classical pianists. Such was interest in the recital that extra seats had to be put out.

The season continues on Sunday with Charles Owen, who recently co-directed the second London Piano Festival, performing works by Bach, Faure, Brahms and Liszt.

He is followed on November 12 by Anna Tsybuleva, the 27-year-old winner of Leeds International Piano Competition in 2015. She is developing a strong following in the region and is due to play the Ravel Piano Concerto with the Halle Orchestra and Sir Mark Elder in Leeds in January.

Other recitalists include Martin James Bartlett, winner of the BBC Young Musician of the Year in 2014, and Clare Hammond. Five of the seven recitals will be given by young pianists, three of them under 30.

Varied programmes include popular pieces such as Debussy's Clair de Lune as well as three Beethoven piano sonatas and Schubert's first set of Impromptus.

Recitals are on Sundays at 3pm in the Central Hall; full details are available at dpiano.co.uk and in the society’s brochure available at the usual outlets. Tickets are available on the website, at the Dolphin Centre reception and at the door on the day. Prices are £12, under-21s £6. Season tickets can also be bought at recitals.
