AN ENVIRONMENTAL group is encouraging people to bring unwanted household items to a “Give or Take" day and pick up something they need.

Kirkbymoorside Environmental Group, based in Ryedale, has been running the popular events for a number of years and will be holding its next exchange on Sunday, October 29 at the Memorial Hall in Kirkbymoorside.

A spokesperson for the group said: “Give or Take days are fun, community waste exchange events giving the chance for people to pass on household items, such as clothing or items of furniture, or to pick up something they need.

“If you have household items cluttering up your home or garage it’s time to have a spring clean and provide others with a chance to pick up items they need for free.

“A lot of good re-usable items end up being discarded but could easily be re-used so the council supports these events as they help reduce waste.

“Give or Take days also provide people a chance to pick up household items they need and at the same time save a bit of money.

“Most people have items they no longer need or use, so it’s much better to pass these on for people to re-use than simply discard them.”

The event will run from 9am until noon and deliveries can also be made on Saturday, October 28 between 6pm and 8pm, and from 8am on Sunday. People do not need to bring items in order to take something away.

The event supports Ryedale District Council’s Choose2Reuse campaign, which aims to minimise waste and encourage people to re-use items.
