A COUPLE celebrating their diamond anniversary got together all of the main guests who were at their wedding 60 years ago for the celebration.

Colin and Gladys Hutchinson, from Bedale, held a gathering at Allerton Court in Northallerton for friends and family to mark their anniversary and ensured they had all of the main guests from their wedding who were in the original photographs, apart from Gladys’ father.

“We had my four bridesmaids, the best man and the groomsman, which we thought was pretty unusual considering it was sixty years ago," she said.

"And it was so lovely to have everybody back together again along with our two daughters, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

“Even my friend and bridesmaid Marjory Smith was there. She came to live in Osmotherley as an evacuee and we went to school together, and we’ve been friends ever since.”

Colin, 80, and Gladys, 81, also met at school. They both went to the Allertonshire School in Northallerton, and love eventually blossomed from there.

And Mrs Hutchinson believes there is a recipe for a happy marriage. “Colin has always been lovely to me, we have always been happy together and it is true that you should never go to bed on an argument. Everybody says it but it’s right,” she said.
