HUNDREDS of students have spelt out their support for people with dementia.
More than 400 pupils from Conyers School and Sixth Form in Yarm held up special cards to form the words Dementia Friendly.
The stunt was part of a special ‘focus day’ to mark the school’s efforts to teach all of its 1,400 pupils about the condition, which affects almost one million people nationwide.
Already several pupils at the school who trained as dementia friends have now gone on to become ‘dementia Champions’ – meaning they can pass on their skills to others.
Teacher Lucy Bentley said: “Our aim is for the entire school to become dementia friendly and we’re going to take a big step towards that on the ‘focus day’ when around 200 students will become dementia friends.
“I am unbelievably proud of them – they have completely embraced their learning and it was their enthusiasm that has generated this whole sequence of events."
