CHILDREN are being encouraged to swap their computer games for the outdoors after a community interest company decided to join the world of Wildcraft Adventure.

Bright Wods Forest School, which is based in Deepdale Nature Reserve, Barnard Castle, have signed up to the community that aims to get the "video game obsessed children" into nature.

The outdoor adventure allows children to learn through first-hand experiences how to develop initiative, problem-solving skills, perseverance and emotional resilience.

The programme, designed for children aged six to 12, has already been hugely popular and is inspired by popular video games such as Minecraft and Terraria.

One of the company directors, Honia Devlin, said: "We’ve been overwhelmed with the positive feedback from the parents and children."

Co-director, Gemme McColl added: "We are very passionate about encouraging children to get outdoors.

"Wildcraft Adventure offers a way of engaging children who might otherwise not have tried it, whilst still appealing to those children who have never played these computer games."

The next session will be held on August 26. For more information call 07399575253 or email brightwoods@outlook.com
