A DOG treat company has recruited one of the most famous pooches in the world as their latest customer.

The celebrated canine half of animation superstars Wallace and Gromit has lent his name to an exclusive line of Wellybix dog biscuits.

Wellybix, based in Romaldkirk, Teesdale, is producing a line of treats called Gromit Unleashed after being approached by the Wallace and Gromit’s charity manager.

The charity arm is part of Aardman Animations, the four times Oscar Winning studio behind such productions as Wallace and Gromit, Shaun the Sheep, Creature Comforts and Chicken Run.

Wellybix owner, Alison Walton, said: “I was approached after they had seen my regular products and accessories at a trade event at the NEC in Birmingham in March this year. They asked if I could bake Gromit some biscuits, and of course I jumped at the opportunity.”

The treats, which come in three different flavours, are priced at £3.45 and can be bought at wallaceandgromitcharityshop.org.uk.

Ms Walton added: “I am of course thrilled at my little Teesdale company being associated with such a prestigious name as Aardman and I doubt I could have attracted a more high-profile customer than Gromit.”

Wellybix – an award winner itself – was launched in 2013 by Alison, working from her home in Teesdale, and named after her six-year-old Jack Russell, Welly.

The company was named Best New Business in the Teesdale Business Awards in 2015.
