AN ORGANISATION set up by gamekeepers to promote environmental work taking place on estates in the region will be running a number of educational projects.

The North Yorkshire Moors Moorland Organisation (NYMMO) was established in 2015 to highlight the work being carried out on grouse moors in the area.

The group aims to tell the story of the shooting and game-keeping community through gamekeepers, their families and local business including garages, butchers, restaurants and hotels who work closely with estates across the North Yorkshire Moors.

The group is run by local people and aims to promote the positive benefits of moorland management by highlighting some of the conservation and social benefits of their work, including why seasonal burning is carried out, highlighting the benefits of peatland restoration and why threatened Red Listed birds are ringed to monitor populations.

They will be inviting schools to visit grouse moors to learn about wildlife thriving on managed estates and conservation projects.
