THE finishing touches are being put to this weekend's Skylive airshow.

A Eurofighter typhoon, Spitfire, Lancaster and aerobatics displays will all be putting in an appearance at the show held at Durham Tees Valley Airport.

The second Skylive show, which will take place on Saturday, also includes a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and troupe of poppy-decorated planes to commemorate the centenary of the First World War.

Organiser and Teesside businessman Chris Petty said he expects this year's event to be bigger and better.

He said: "Everything is coming together nicely, ticket sales are going well and the weather forecast is looking really good.

"This has always been a long-term project, our first event last year was really good but this year's promises to be even better.

"We have had to make a few tweaks to events on the day but there is definitely more for people to enjoy this year."

The event also featured static plane displays, an extensive vintage car collection, fairground rides and about 20 Army and RAF stalls.

The airshow had originally been planned to take off in the summer of 2015, but was postponed in the wake of the Shoreham Airshow disaster.

In the air this year will be the Eurofighter Typhoon, Spitfire, a North American T-6 Texan, a Loach – or light observation helicopter – a Lancaster and a Hurricane.

The Huey Helicopter – used to transport troops and equipment during the Vietnam War, as well as limited support and attack missions – will also be in the air.

Tom Cassells, who has been three times Unlimited British Champion, Six time top UK pilot at World and European Championships, will be putting on an aerobatics display.

A Boeing Chinook will be in the air, and a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight involving an Avro Lancaster, a Supermarine Spitfire and a Hawker Hurricane, will be performing an aerial display.

The Bronco Demo Team, based near the former First World War battlefields, will perform demonstrations with its new “poppy” livery.

And the popular Falcons parachute display team, based at RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire, will be returning to the show, along with a British Army ground display.
