CHILDREN at a primary school have staged their own art exhibition.

The youngsters turned their hands to a range of art work to be displayed at an open day at Knayton CE Primary School near Thirsk.

Pupils were given sketchbooks and created artwork in a range of mediums; from ink, charcoal and pastels to pencils and watercolour paints.

Their observational drawings and other creative art projects were then showcased in the art exhibition, which was open to parents.

Each class also created a display in the school hall relating to texts they were looking at, which included a depiction of The Great Wave from Michael Morpurgo's Kensuke's Kingdom and Why the Whales Came.

Headteacher Nikkie Beniams said: “I am so proud of the beautiful artwork that the children have produced. It was really special to see the children sharing their achievements with parents and family members - they were so proud of themselves.

“The staff at Knayton worked incredibly hard to pull the exhibition together and I am so grateful. They're a talented team and I'm lucky to work with them.”
