A DALES artist who spent more than ten years recreating the famous Wainwrights in watercolour is set to give a talk on his experience.

Andy Beck, of Bowes, in Teesdale, retraced the footsteps of master fell-walker Alfred Wainwright across the Lake District Fells to complete his limited edition book The Wainwrights in Colour.

Mr Beck has spent thousands of hours covering 1,500 references originally sketched by Wainwright in the 1950s and 60s in his Pictorial Guides to Lakeland Fells which he said became a “labour of love”.

Mr Beck said: “I spent long days out on the fells covering miles of rough terrain to quiet nights wild-camping on the mountain tops under a star filled sky.

“The evening’s talk contains the interesting, funny and moving anecdotes that explain the trials and tribulations of this ten-year journey”.

Mr Beck is running the event, which will be held in Bowes Village Hall, as a fundraiser for Bowes Carnival.

The talk will be held on Friday, May 12, with doors open from 7pm before the talk starts at 7.30pm.

Entry is £5 or £2 for students on the door. To reserve a seat call 01833-628343.
