A TINY school that thinks big has opened its very own “trim trail.”
St Nicholas CE primary at West Tanfield, near Ripon, is a very small rural school with just 46 pupils on roll.
However, it was ambitious enough to be allocated grants from the National Lottery - £8,726 - and the local council - £1,000 – to create its new trail.
The school’s Parent Teacher Association also played its part with members working hard to raise an additional £500.
And earlier this month Nicola Wilson, the Olympic eventing silver medallist who originally comes from Darlington, was the guest of honour at the official opening ceremony.
The trim trail is a key part of the school’s commitment to developing pupils’ healthy lifestyles, promoting health, social and emotional well-being - which in turn can raise their educational performance.
The equipment has been designed for children of all ages and all physical abilities and will help them to develop in a number of ways - with their balance, grip, co-ordination and risk-taking - as well as giving them a sense of adventure.
