A TOURISM chief called in to wish a local attraction a happy fifth birthday.
Since they were officially opened in April 2012 by Lord Hague, Berry’s Farm Shop and Café at Swinithwaite has developed as a place to visit.
Their farm shop offers locally-sourced products, which has attracted the attention of HRH Prince Charles who visited in September 2015.
Their farm tours, with the chance to see animals close up, help promote British Farming.
The café is a well-known stop-off for vintage and veteran car rallies, the Yorkshire Trike Tours can often be seen taking a pit stop and it is the base for the Heather and Honey Rally in August, which has been featured on television. They have recently opened a ‘glamping site’ with three handcrafted yurts.
To celebrate their fifth birthday, the café held a party, a craft fair and farm tours.
Chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire Sir Gary Verity dropped in to pay a visit and was shown around.
Although he was happy to cut the birthday cake, as an avid and determined cyclist, he declined to try even a small piece.
He said: “Congratulations to Berry’s on celebrating five years opening. They do a great deal to promote British Farming and for tourism locally.”
