HORSERIDERS of all ages joined a fun Easter ride in a County Durham forest at the weekend to raise funds for an equine charity.

Organised by the Hamsterley Riding Association, the community fundraising ride took place at Hamsterley Forest, near Bishop Auckland, on Saturday.

And more than 60 riders brought their horses and ponies for the 13-mile hack in aid of the charity Brooke – Action for Working Horses and Donkeys.

A shorter route of 6km was also available for younger guests as well as Easter-themed fancy dress and prizes for the best costumes.

Senior regional fundraising officer Caroline Robertson said the event was a huge success.

She said: “I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone that came along to ride, lead reign and volunteer at the Easter Horse and Pony Ride.”

She added: “We raised a fantastic £191.50 for Brooke.

“Everyone had a great time and this money will help to improve the lives of working equines and their owners in developing countries and make a lasting difference to their welfare.”
