SCOUT groups from across the Northallerton, Bedale and Leeming areas will come together to celebrate their patron saint, St George, on April 23.

They will spend the morning on a hike together from Morton on Swale, finishing at County Hall in Northallerton for a district picnic.

There the youngsters will also take the opportunity to renew their Scouting promise together as well as thank the many volunteers who support behind the scenes at an outdoor service led by Robert Williamson, the chaplain of North Yorkshire Police.

District commissioner Mark Turner said: “St George’s day has a serious message for our young members in renewing their promise, but this year we have asked our young members how they want to celebrate and they have been involved in designing our celebrations.”

Assistant commissioner Tina Bryson added: “Following on from the success of Cubs 100 last year, I’m really looking forwards to seeing lots of our young people from across the sections out together enjoying the day.”
