RESIDENTS have two weeks to register to vote in the upcoming county council elections for North Yorkshire or to apply for a postal vote if needed.

Poll cards to vote on May 4 when all the county council seats are up for election should have been received by March 28. The authority says it’s known that thousands of residents who are eligible are not registered but have until April 13 to apply. Go to www.gov.uk/register-to-vote to register or contact your district council to get advice.

The authority is responsible for social services, roads and public health. For people who are registered to vote, but won’t be able to get to the polling station on May 4 applications for postal votes can be made up to 5pm on Tuesday April 18 or for proxy votes 5pm on Tuesday April 25, by applying to the relevant district council’s.
